24.01 - 12.02.2023Most people will first think of literary fiction when they hear the term “fiction”, but the idea of fiction is by no means tied to literature as a medium. All representational media have a capacity for fiction. Fiction can be said to exist wherever a world of its own is created that does not adhere to reality. So how does this freedom from reality take shape in art? Art does not simply depict something, it adds something to what it refers to. It mixes fact and fiction or creates its very own world, which at first glance has nothing to do with reality. Fiction appears in different ways: sometimes it is told by art, sometimes depicted and sometimes hinted at. Art creates its own truth and the means of this creation is fictionalization. The many ways of breaking with reality are the central theme of this exhibition.
